Pomona Noosa Hinterland Homestay
Heritage Homestay in the heart of the Noosa Hinterland.
Our Place
We hope you have a wonderful stay with us. We are so proud of our little village and all its surrounds. There is so much to see, do and explore in this lovely area that you are spoilt for choices, and we hope you take advantage of each and every one (if you have the time available).
Pomona (named after the Goddess of fruit trees, gardens and orchards), is nestled in the foothills of the majestic Mt Cooroora, which is host to the annual ‘King of the Mountain’ race, held on the last Sunday of each July. You can be ‘King of the Mountain’ in your own time if you like mountain climbing. If you wish to climb the mountain, I'd suggest to go in the cool of the morning, and take plenty of water.
Along with this, we have the very popular Noosa Trails, if biking, hiking or horse riding is your thing. There's a great hike that which starts in Pomona and ends in Cooran ... at the Brewery! You just need someone to pick you up from the brewery.
Pomona also has a Disk Golf course, right here in town, which is free to use.
And, if you want a birds eye view of the mountain, you can also go hot air ballooning, right here in Pomona!
We have ‘nature galore’, with kangaroos hopping up and down our street, and quite often resting in our very own front yard. From time to time, we have nesting birds in our little bird houses, also in the front yard. There are also resident ducks who go for a waddle up and down the street to see what’s what in the ‘hood’. Waking up to the magpies warbling is so much better than an alarm clock, I think.
We are a booming little village, with awesome food and coffee shops, I can’t say that I enjoy one more than the others, they are all that awesome. The food varies from shop to shop, so, try them all and choose for yourself. My absolute favourites are the Trail Burger (lunch), and the pancake Stack (breakfast), both coincidentally at Trail 518. That's not to say that the others aren't as good. As I said before, they are all great.
We have the Pomona Gin Distillery which is within walking distance from our homestay. The distillery is all things rustic and wonderful, with great cocktails and food. We’ve spent many a lovely time there with friends and family.
We are home to the only Silent Movie Theatre in the Southern Hemisphere – The Majestic Theatre – which has something running every single week. It’s a real ‘step back in time’ and a must see.
We are also lucky enough to have an awesome little homewares store called "Velzy Lane" owned and operated by Jimmy and Tam who won 'The Block' a few years back - you really need to check it out. It's right opposite our fabulous "Pomona Railway Art Gallery".
We have a thriving Saturday morning market with something for everyone. My favourites are Dhom’s Kitchen (utterly fantasticThai food), Songbird Spring Natural Therapies (run by the lovely Deb), and Toni’s Handmade Jewellry (Toni has very generously offered a 10% discount if you mention that you’re staying with us). There is so much to see at our markets apart from my faves though, from musicians and local produce ,through to soaps and plants, and so much more.
Speaking of markets, they are also at Noosa, Eumundi, Yandina, Kin Kin and further into the hinterland, and I personally think they are all awesome. Kin Kin and Yandina are more of the old-style country markets, whereas Eumundi and Noosa are both a bit more upmarket, particularly Noosa. If you go to the Eumundi market please have a look at ‘Zephyr’, which has lovely linen of all descriptions as featured in the popular magazine 'Country Style". Take the time to check it out.
And ... there are so many new breweries opening in the surrounding area its hard to keep track, but my absolute favourite is the Noosa Hinterland Brewing Company (no relation to us). I love their fruity beer, so refreshing on a hot day.
Also, just down the road towards Boreen Point, is the Apollonian Hotel, famous for its Sunday spit roast and bands of all kinds to while away a Sunday afternoon.
We also have a local meadery, yes we do, called the Amrita Park Meadery, which is again, just down the road and another 'must see'.
If wine is your thing, then Dingo Creek Winery is the place for you, just a 15 minute drive from here. its a typically 'country' winery ... and they host an annual Jazz and Blues festival, which is awesome by the way.
You'll probably need some delicious cheeses to go with your wine, beer or mead, so might I suggest a trip to the Kennilworth Cheese Factory as well - you can taste before you decide.
There are also many, many wonderful artists of all descriptions. The yearly Noosa Art Trail is run throughout the areas near us with so many artists to visit. The Cooroy Butter Factory always has a magnificent display from local artists, as does the Pomona Railway Gallery and the display at the Pomona Gin Distillery. In fact, it doesn’t really matter which part of the coast or hinterland you are visiting, there is a gallery of some description.
Cooroy is our closest ‘big’ town and its packed full of awesome little shops, both gifts and clothing, I have too many favourites there to mention. They also have some nice coffee places to visit. If you want a really nice lunch or dinner, I would definitely recommend the 'Copperhead Brewery', or if you’re after more value for money, then the RSL is great too.
If you need something a bit bigger than a country town for shopping, then the Sunshine Plaza at Maroochydore is about 45 minutes down the highway, with everything you could possibly need.
Gympie - the town that saved Qld with its gold discoveries, is up the road about 20 minutes give or take, depending whether you take the highway or go inland and take in all the beautiful countryside. If you go inland, there happens to be a funky little garage/coffee shop/bar called 'Helltown Hotrods', chock full of vintage paraphernalia. Gympie still has working goldmines and you can stop at the Gold Museum and actually pan for some gold for yourself.
If you really want to go for a day trip, try Goomeri, inland from Gympie and visit not only a truly rustic little town, but their bakery. Words cannot describe the food and coffee that they produce, inspired by a French bakery in the Pyrenees, the food is literally ‘to die for’.
We have our own little takeaways and restaurants as well - we have 'Serges Pizzas' - Serge is delightfully French and a great laugh, and we have a family run Chinese Restaurant which is either eat in or takeaway, called 'Pomona Chinese Restaurant'. We also have 'Pomona Country Kitchen' which serves a variety of foods, including Japanese. Added to these, we also have our own bakery, I can personally vouch for their meat pies, sausage rolls, pretzels and cakes.
We have a decent sized IGA in town if you want to bring foods to eat here. We have a bar fridge and microwave for your convenience, but we have no cooking facilities as such.
Lastly, we are so very close to Noosa and its surrounding coastal towns. The sunsets on Noosa River are simply unbelievable, so nice to watch with a glass of something bubbly and maybe a pizza from Zachary’s. There is an abundance of eating places along Gympie Terrace in Noosaville, there are just so many nice restaurants in Noosa and in the nearby coastal towns. And, of course, there’s Hastings Street along with Noosa Main Beach, where you can spend a day having fun in the sun, shopping, eating, and then coming back to rest up with a drink on our front porch.
Welcome to Noosa hinterland homestay, a cozy and comfortable getaway. We are located in Pomona, a charming town in the foothills of Mt Cooroora on the fabulous Sunshine Coast hinterland. Our Homestay is a short walk or ride away from downtown Pomona, and close to some of the best beaches, markets, gin distillery and art galleries.
If you are looking for a short getaway, you will find all the comforts of home at our Homestay. Come and enjoy the beautiful scenery and hospitality of Noosa hinterland homestay.
